April 3 - 6, 2026- Before saying goodbye to Virginia Beach we rode the bike trail again. We rode almost the entire trail. It emerges from the cypress swamp at a small lake. The landscape changed again when we entered the salt flats. We skipped the last 1/4 mile of trail because it got sandy and riding in soft sand is not fun.

After our ride, we packed up and headed north. Next stop, Erin and Steve’s house in Alexandria. Traffic was heavy and it took quite a bit longer than expected, but we took our time, we’re retired so no need to rush.
We had a great weekend visiting and exploring Del Ray. Saturday we took the metro to the mall and toured the African American Museum. It was very good, but also very big. The mall and museum were crowded (kind of expected for Easter weekend). After touring about 1/2 the museum we were hungry and tired. We decided we’d save the rest for another time.

On Sunday Andy and went for an Easter morning bike ride. There are numerous bike trails in the area. From here you can ride into DC to the north and down to Mount Vernon to the south. Rain was moving in so we cut our ride short, but will explore these trails on our next visit.

We left for home on Sunday evening. We will boon-dock at a Walmart or Rest area and get home tomorrow.
It was a great trip. We got spoiled by the warm weather and are ready for spring to come to Michigan.
