March 30, 2026 - Today was a travel day so I’ll start with the exciting end. We just got back to the camper after a nighttime bike ride. We heard a barred owl hooting and saw an armadillo!

We arrived at Jekyll Island State Parkat about 6:00 and we were hungry for dinner and anxious for a little exercise after sitting in the car all day. While Andy unhitched the camper I check online for food options. The 24 Coastal Grill looked promising and it was only 3 miles away. We decided to ride our bikes there. The food and atmosphere were good, but slow. By the time we finished our hamburger and Philly cheese steak sandwich. It was dark. We had one bike light (I forgot mine) and a headlamp. Our bike helmets have integrated red lights on the backs so we could be seen. It was exciting but we were glad to find the camper in the dark.

Jekyll Island is interesting and we will explore more tomorrow. First impressions is that it’s quiet. Not a touristy spot (a plus) more like a place you go to visit grandma and grandpa on spring break.

The drive from Asheville down into Georgia and out onto the island was pretty and uneventful, except for the fact that by noon it was warm and we changed into shorts and t-shirts.

The drive from Michigan down into Texas still leads as the least scenic we traveled. Sorry Texas.
